Don’t Live Down To Expectations…Posted by Joe in Motivation At Work - Inspirations For The Soul“Don’t live down to expectations. Go out there and do something remarkable.” - Wendy Wasserstein Tags: do something, expectations, wendy wasserstein“Do not fear mistakes there are none.” – Miles Davis Tags: Fear, Inspirations For The Soul, miles davis, mistakes, Motivation At WorkMistakes Are Great… If you're afraid to make a mistake – you're interferring with the very process that makes you successful. This is a tough lesson for so many people to learn. Mistakes are not the end of the world; they're your ticket to a whole new existence. I was talking with my daughter about what it takes to get good at volleyball. She's sixteen but she's full of life and willing to learn. You see she has only played for one year she started in her freshman year in High School and before that had never even picked up a volleyball. Now one year later she just finished her sophmore year as a starting varsity player. WOW. You know we all start in the same postion a beginner. None of us were born with the skills to achieve any of our undertakings. Everything used to be hard for us but now they're easier. When she started she could not hit the ball over the net. She could not jump and hit the ball at the same time when defending the net. She did not know how to spike the ball or even what a spkie was. She did not even know what the calls were that the referees where calling. Do you have any idea of how many things use to be hard to her but now they are easy? How about when she learned to do math and english or she was learning to run to get dressed to feed herself and so on. Everything was once very difficult. She struggled with them. She made a ton of mistakes. Yet now She can do them a lot easier. Do you know what this means? It means that anything She wants to learn the same rules will apply. At first she will make mistakes. She'll struggle. Then she'll make fewer mistakes because the mistakes are teaching her WHAT to do. Then if she pays attention like she has done so far she'll be able to do the new thing too. It's as simple as that. But if she whines and complains and cries about her mistakes she'll never get anywhere. She'll think poorly about herself and she'll get results that will not make her happy. I am very proud of her she has come along ways and is doing great things in life. This is a lesson though that I will continue to reienfoce with her. I don't know of a single person who could not benefit from this knowledge. All of us can. Don't fear mistakes. Use them as the corrective feedback they truly are. Mistakes lead to greatness – but only if you stop judging them as bad. You can learn how to overcome negative feelings about mistakes and remove all the residue and hurt feelings you might have about failing at something. Failure like mistakes are NOT what you think they are. They are life-changing to say the least. They'll turn up your success crank and help you start pumping out nothing but good stuff. Take your mistakes and start learning from them it is time for great things in your life. Your Partner In Success |
